Woodward Regional Receives Golden Hour Award

WOODWARD REGIONAL RECEIVES GOLDEN HOUR AWARD

Woodward Regional Hospital (WRH) received the Golden Hour Award from OU Medical Center on May 7, 2010.  Accepting the award were Steve Owens, Chief Nursing Officer and Rollie Walker, RN, director of the Emergency Department.  Presenting the award were Roxie M. Albrecht, M.D. Medical Director of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care at OU Health Sciences Center.  Bob Stoops, OU head football coach, was also on hand for the presentation.

The emergency department is credited with saving a child’s life by stabilizing and transferring the child to OU Medical Center within one hour (the golden hour) of arriving in the emergency department.  According to Owens, the award for pediatrics is given to only one hospital per year. “It is for the quality and most expeditious care the child could receive.”

This is the first time the hospital has ever received this honor.  Owens credited their success to teamwork among doctors, nurses and Air Evac staff.   Todd Mason, RN and Justin Hunter, paramedic, with Air Evac were also recognized for “Outstanding Pre-hospital Air Transport” by OU Medical Center.  WRH and Air Evac work together to provide excellent emergency care to our area.
